The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
northeastern Polk County in western Arkansas...
northwestern Montgomery County in western Arkansas...
southern Scott County in western Arkansas...

* until 400 am CDT

* at 1259 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
an area of heavy rainfall along a line extending from 6 miles
northwest of Oden to 7 miles east of Queen Wilhelmina State Park.
Doppler radar indicates 1 to 3 inches of rain have fallen over
parts of the warned area in the past 2 hours with additional heavy
rain expected. Flash flooding is likely to occur. While
precipitation may taper off in some areas during the warning
period... it will take some time for any high water to runoff.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams... rivers... or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon
through Monday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Arkansas... north central Arkansas and
western Arkansas... including the following areas... in central
Arkansas... Pope and Yell. In north central Arkansas... Boone
and Newton. In western Arkansas... Johnson... Logan...
Montgomery... Polk and Scott.

* From Sunday afternoon through Monday morning

* widespread showers and thunderstorms will move into the state
from the west on Sunday afternoon. These storms will produce
rainfall amounts in excess of 2 to 3 inches... with locally
higher amounts... in western Arkansas from Sunday afternoon
through Monday morning.

* The soil across much of Arkansas remains saturated from the
heavy rainfall that occurred during the month of may. Many
rivers and streams are still at unseasonably high levels... with
any additional heavy rainfall only increasing the potential for
flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
